Counting Crows

Last night on PBS, they had Counting Crows on Soundstage. They sounded great. Adam looks as though the "salad days" are behind them, but otherwise sounded great. They played "Mr Jones," "Mrs. Potter's Lullaby," "Hangin Around," and many others of their favorites. It was very good. Catch the re-run if you can.
Evidently, the Crows have a Greatest Hits album coming out, that must be what they're playing to support.

Olympics were good last night. They're done with swimming (thankfully). Yes, Michael Phelps you are a great swimmer. No doubt. No one is arguing it. If nothing else, you're bringing even more exposure to a sport which has very poor exposure except every four years when the Olympics occur, and all Americans act as though they know a lot about swimming...they know exactly what NBC tells them and nothing more. Having said that, congratulations to Michael Phelps on his accomplishment. Sincerely, you did great.
There are others, too. Our 4 x 100 women's team looked great last night at the qualifying, winning by a VERY large margin. If they lose, it will have to be to a team that breaks the world record.
Evidently the Men's B-Ball team lost to Argentina, so is guaranteed to not win a Gold medal this year. Ouch. All that talent, and we can't win. Maybe KG had it right by not even showing up.
Women's Soccer had their last hurrah. Great to see that group win another Gold.

Books

So, on my flight to Cleveland over the weekend I read Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Closterman. Great book. It will, I must warn you, not be appreciated by those folks under 26 or over 35. It's, in my humble opinion, a true book to be appreciated by Gen X-ers (I think that's what we're called). Speaking of Gen x-ers, I thought we were supposed to be slackers....what gives. My friends and I are some of the hardest working people I know. We're very ambitious. Could be that we're just so cynical at having seen the things that companies did to our parents that we've become a bit jaded and don't work at a company from "womb to tomb" the way a lot of our parents did. We lost our loyalty as we saw it not reciprocated.

So, Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs is a very good book.
I'm plowing through A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. It's very good also. The story of a 23 year old drug addict. It starts off with him waking up on an airplane, front four teeth broken out, nose broken, and eyes swollen nearly shut. He is unaware of how he got on the plane or where he's going. I'm not done with it yet, but it's a pretty gripping story so far.

My choices in literature have been pretty interesting lately....I'm going to have to think about that and wonder why.....

Traffic

So I'm driving home from work last night and it occurs to me that virtually no one knows how to drive!! I know I'm not a genius, but for crying out loud people. Plan. Ahead. Don't wait until your exit is right on top of you to get over. Sheesh.

Anyway, I spent the weekend in Cleveland, OH. Never been then, don't see much of a reason to go back. It was a work-related function, so I didn't get out much, but did have some pretty good food. Stayed at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Nice enough hotel. Very convenient. Flew into Cleveland airport, and they have a train (Rapid Transportation) which runs through downtown directly to the lower floors of the hotel which is attached to a mall. It looks like it used to be some type of train station with marble and gilded everything.

So I'm very jet-lagged and caught a bit of a cold from breathing germs from who knows where. (cough cough).

Inaugural run

This is my attempt at a blog.
The idea for blogging is a very good one. Sharing thoughts, experiences with strangers, but documenting a part of our history and reflecting on it.
I've done this before in various capacities, but this will be a new experience.
